Pope John Paul I reigned from August 26, 1978 until his death thirty-three days later. It is one of the shortest reigns in the history of the Catholic Church. Because of this very few of these blessings exists.

The Apostolic Blessing was obtained by Cardinal Wright, the Bishop of Pittsburgh and a late friend of Edward Mitchell to whom the blessing was given.

It is believed John Paul I will soon be beatified making this artifact itself a blessing to the Collection.
