Stanhopes From the Pontificates of Saint John XXIII and Paul VI: Close'up

A stanhope is an optical device that allows you to view a microphotograph without using a microscope.

The larger stanhope is a souvenir thermometer in the shape of a key. The four major basilicas in Rome, the cross-keys and tiara, and the images of Saint John XXIII and Pope Paul VI are shown in the stanhope.

The smaller stanhope is a camera depicting several different scenes from the city of Rome that may be viewed through the lense.
