This is a fairly large portion of the front of Blessed Pius IX’s white, silk cassock that is folded over and has a holy card attached to it.

The cassock is the ankle length garment worn by clergy with a close fitting waist and sleeves and a fascia (sash) around the waist.

The pope’s cassock is always white.
