Pope Pius XI: A Decorative Folder for His Personal Papers Inside an Ornate Metal Case

Pope Pius XI: A Decorative Folder for His Personal Papers Inside an Ornate Metal Case

Pius XI: Metal Case for Personal Papers with Coat of Arms--Watered Silk Lining & Note

The artifact is a unique item from the papacy of Pius XI.   The  decorative metal case with his coat of arms on the cover very possibly was added later to house the contents inside.  There are several colorful beads adorning it with angels on the sides of the cross keys & tiara and additional metal scroll work on all sides of it.

The important parts of the item are the decorative folder made of  watered silk, and the  vellum  with silver clasps and  the coat of arms.  This folder was most likely used for when he gave speeches.

The artifact includes a message dated June 24, 1939 and contains information about the use of this lovely item.  (Pius XI died on February 10, 1939, making it clear it is not his writing.)

It is truly a unique item giving us a glimpse into the papacy of Pope Pius XI.

It is also an attractive addition to this Collection.
