Pope Benedict XIV: An 18th Century Raised Wax Profile

Pope Benedict XIV: An 18th Century Raised Wax Profile

The artifact is a wax carving of Pope Benedict XIV housed in its original circular glazed case which has ecclesiastical decoration with gilded gold rimmed edges.

The minor damage includes losses to the wax in places and some inside rim losses to the gilded paper around the glass gazed top.

The case itself is 3 ¾” in diameter and is 1” in height.

Given the fragile nature of this wax artifact and the time in which it was created (Pope Benedict XIV  reigned from 1740 -1758) it is phenomenal it has survived to the present time.

A rare artifact, indeed!
