The passing of Pope Francis marks a significant moment in the life of the Catholic Church. As with every papacy, his time as the Bishop of Rome will be studied, debated, and remembered for its unique contributions and challenges. His emphasis on mercy, care for the poor, and the role of conscience left a distinct imprint on the global Church.
As pastor of St. James, and curator of the Papal Artifacts Collection, I have long been inspired not only by individual popes, but by the papacy itself—an office that spans centuries and carries with it a rich and complex legacy. Pope Francis’ life and leadership are now part of that unbroken historical narrative.
Plans are underway for another Vatican Unveiled exhibit in 2025 in Minnesota, where we will offer a deeper look at the papacy through rare and historical artifacts—many of which belonged to the popes themselves, including Pope Francis. These items help tell the story of an office that is both deeply spiritual and profoundly human.
Please join me in prayer for the repose of his soul and for the Church as it prepares to elect a new shepherd.
