The item featured here is an object made of turned wood, with a kind of wrought-iron handle, containing a brass disk screwed to the inside, with the outside covered by a plate of brass or engraved copper.
Candlemas Day, February 2, is the feast celebrating the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple and the Virgin Mary being purified, which, in the present day involves many of the faithful bringing candles to their churches to be blessed.
