Pope St. Pius X: Zucchetto with Significant Document

The Card Attached to the Zucchetto
Translation

(From)  Giovanni Gornato, cameriere to Pope Pius X.  I give it to brother Alexander, brother-in-law of Don Carlo Pesci on (the occasion of) the death of Signor Alexander on 12/10 or 11. (Year not included.)

A Cameriere means several things in Italian, such as a manservant, a head waiter or a valet.

So Giovanni Gornato was most likely Pope Pius X’s valet.

Documentation of this Zucchetto
Archbishop Giovanni Montini
Pope St. Paul VI

Father Richard Kunst, Curator

I have never seen a significant papal relic, which is what this zucchetto is,  attested to by a future pope.

The document accompanying the zucchetto was signed by the Archbishop of Milan, Giovanni Montini, the future Pope St. Paul VI.

The document is what makes this a unique piece.

The seals on the zuchetto are the seals of the diocese of Milan.
